So I figured it was probably about time to update my journal on this very uneventful but blistering hot weekend in sunny Melbourne.
It was a very busy 2008 in my scientific photography course, and unfortunately I don't have a particularly
expansive folio to show for it, but rather a whole lot of techniques I'm scared of losing over this 4 month summer break.
I've submitted a couple of the more simple, digital files from this year such as
Most importantly though, I want to use this entry to thank the people who have helped me out with my photography in various ways over the last year.
Naturally, my amazing teachers and mentors over the last 2 years are the top of the list; Phred Peterson, Greg Humphries and Prof. Gale Spring at RMIT university, for without them my skills and appreciation of the various applications of photography, would be less than desirable.
Secondly to my amazing friends who have been the models, assistants and muses to my art over the last year (Alex Roe, Eliza Lam, Dan Myles, Caroline Maxwell, Jenny Stephens, Julian Eckstein). And to Lol
I would also like to thank

I'm still very happy with these photos a year down the track, which is rare
In terms of what I want to do now, I'm not exactly sure. I'm a little lost with my ambitions outside of my course. I mean, I'm pretty sure I want to go on to do a form of scientific photography.
What I'd really like to do is get into the archival photography at the National Gallery of Victoria (for both historical recording and for the brochures/advertising/publications that the NGV do). But that's a whole other story.
When it comes down to the photography I do out of leisure and passion I'm just a bit thwarted by my expectations of myself I guess; constantly trying to think of something new and interesting and then convincing myself it's a tacky or stupid idea.
This is something I've got to get over, and get my ass together and start organising some shoots, as I'm surrounded by a friendship group of model worthy kids. So I really have no excuse.
On a happier note these are a couple of my images from 2008 that I'm most happy with:

Please feel free to let me know what you think.
All the same, hold tight friends, the concepts will be coming. I have a month before crazy third (and last) year of uni begins, so I might as well get some fun shoots in there before another year of science-orientated imagery
Happy 2009, let's make it a good one!
Cheerio,
Sof
